Government College Mansehra was established in 1958 in a small building of Mansehra city. Initially it was an Intermediate college but in 1973 it was upgraded to Degree level. The college was upgraded to Postgraduate level in 1989. Pursuing the Education Policy imperatives when Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa launched B.S Program in 2010, our college was amongst the pioneers which took the initiative and started the BS program with full vigor and enthusiasm.
Besides intermediate classes, twelve Departments of B.S (Four Years Program) are functioning in the college in different subjects six among which belong to sciences viz Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Statistics, Zoology and Maths where as six belong to humanities viz English, Urdu, Islamic Studies, Pakistan Studies, Political Science, and Economics. The academic standards in the college campus are superb and facilities for both academic work and social life are of good quality supervised by the Academic Quality Enhancement Committee headed by Prof. Dr. Ghulam Mustafa .
This college has multiple grand buildings which have been beautified and renovated through special repair. A new BS Block is in the final stage of construction which will accommodate four full fledge BS Departments. The classrooms are spacious, airy and attractive. The lawns, fountains, passages, orchids, rose gardens and playgrounds reflect a special look of the college campus. The college is located at a beautiful site just five kilometer away from the city and it is easily accessible. The spacious 132 kenal site of the college campus is lush green which has been subjected to special renovation and beautification. The objectives of this college are to produce such individuals who would serve the nation to prosperity and development. Character and confidence building among students are given special focus through multiple co-curricular activities which remain continuous throughout the year with special reference to science exhibition, IDPL sports gala, seminars on Seerat un Nabi (Peace be upon him), Iqbal Day and debates on national/international days. At Intermediate level model sections are functional for which the meritorious students are selected through grand test. Excelling students are moved to model sections where as those who get low score are stepped down on the basis of monthly MCQ pattern tests. A grand board pattern test is served in March each year.
